2020 PS4 Managed To Generate 65% Of Total PlayStation Revenue Surpassing PS5 of 2021 : Is PS4 Better Than PS5?

PS4 2020 surpassed the fan-favorite PS5 in terms of sales revenue

The PlayStation 4 (PS4) was first announced back in February 2013 and was launched on November 15, 2013. It’s no secret that owning PS4 grants you access to a vast catalog of games. PS4 surpassed its predecessor PS3 in numerous ways and Sony didn’t let users’ expectations down from PS5.

Surprisingly, PS4 still has generated more sales in comparison to fan-favorite PS4. As of August 2022, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 3.85 million units. Currently, the PS4 console is ahead of the PS5 by 2.56 million units.

According to Statista blogs, PS4 managed to generate 65% of total PlayStation revenue surpassing PS5. The PS5 has sold 22.75 million units in 22 months, while the PS4 sold 25.31 million units.

According to one of the VGChartz blogs, ” The PS4 crossed 30 million units in month 25, 40 million units in month 31, and 50 million in month 38. The PS4 has sold 116.99 million units to date.” Indeed, several fans get surprised after learning about the actual sales comparison between PS4 and PS5.

Even though PS5 offers more features and a better experience, why PS4 is ahead of the new-gen console in terms of sales revenue, let’s find out.

Why PS4 has more sale revenue in comparison to PlayStation 5?

The PS5’s launch lineup is arguably Sony’s best yet. Furthermore,  it’s already filled with some truly great titles such as God Of War, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and many more. Not to mention, PlayStation 5 boasts a better CPU, GPU, and an internal NVMe SSD, making it a faster and more capable console.

PS5 is indeed a more preferable choice to PS4, it couldn’t surpass its predecessor in comparison to sales. The major reason for this outperformance was it faced a shortage of supplies when it first arrived on the market. Moreover, several users also love to collect old popular consoles in their collection.
