Horror games are in a huge number of (usually unnerving) form, shapes and shapes. Don’t you alone, though, when you feel like there is something special about the best sci-fi horror games.
These real horror games were not only great movies, but also TV and many other games. Throughout the building process, developers realized that, without realising that there is simply nothing scarier than being thrown into an unknown time and a remote place and relying on unknown tools to combat unknown horrors. The best sci-fi horror games often make a good impression of both genres.
Before we dive into that, though, look at the rules and criteria used to the table::
- This list based on science fiction pretty traditional definitions. In general, games that emphasize advanced scientific concepts typical of the genre (space travel, the distance future, advanced AI/technology, etc.) were considered eligible.
- Zombie games were not considered eligible for this list unless they strongly emphasized some kind of sci-fi element. We will see the greatest undead in gaming history and be able to save it for another day.
- A rule for each franchise is issued for this list, but the rule wasn’t really impacting one franchise.
- As mentioned above, games that emphasized science fiction and horror had a better chance of making this list. But, with a hint of a few amazing sci-fi games that just missed the cut, there’s the end.
Even though I didn’t look at it, I have to remind you that no one can hear you screaming in space, even if you have one of the 15 best sci-fi horror games ever made.
15. Iron Lung
I’ll assume that Iron Lung is the latest game on this list, but I can’t imagine it being the first time I ever played it. With some remuneration aside, I truly believe that this game will one day be considered unung gem of the genre.
Iron Lung sees you pilot a submarine with a sub-zero moon. This game, designed by a brilliant director, David Szymanski (DUSK, Gloomwood, The Music Machine), is not just genuinely terrifying but also contains sci-fi horror ideas that I really liked not as many as others. That looks like an even scarier version of Subnautica. The only thing worse than the claustrophobia, the game provokes is the fact that anything you run into will be very scarier than what you are imagining. This game is a very intense game.
14. We have returned to Australia.
I had some disappointment for Including Wilds on this list, but it was certainly some stretch to call this a horror game. Fortunately, there is a second time-loop-only sci-fi title worthy of that horrific tag.
Our Went Back begins when you realize that you are in the space station seemingly abandoned. An already terrifying scenario gets worse when they realize that space station isn’t nearly as abandoned as they were afraid. Essentially a hallway horror game with some time-loop twists, we Went Backs dynamic environments, retro aesthetics and brilliant storytelling elevate this game above some substantial competition. In fact, you can beat the game in less than an hour, but a free, creative, short game is actually really something to celebrate.
13. The Thing
There is always bittersweet chance to talk about the 2002 nbsp adaptation. On the one hand, it’s one of the greatest horror games of all time and, for me, it’s a really incredible sci-fi horror title. On the other hand, if all of the original hardware comes, it’s impossible to legally play the game now. Many people did not really miss this one until now, and many people won’t ever do it anymore.
The Thing is still a complete great example of this genre. The Thing focuses on the paranoia aspect of the movie, which is really based on, keeps you on the edge of the chair, even in quiet moments. As soon as you realize, the only thing scarier than being alone in a sci-fi thriller is surrounded by allies that could turn on you at any moment.
12. GTFO
Now that you have probably been aware, there’s another sci-fi horror game that can perfectly capture the horror of the original Alien film. A few days later, on the list are some of the many well-known movies you can’t see there. However, there’s only one sci-fi horror movie that captures the terror of Aliens, and its not one of the many games that are officially based on one of the greatest films ever made.
GTFO is basically a sleeve-style team shooter with a little left 4-odd tossed in. As you can tell from the name of this game, the difficulty in the problem is much greater than those in this game. There are some who have found this game too difficult, but what you’re going to realise is that GTFO is very rare, which doesn’t measure victories as much as you kill. Your squad ought to look like heroes when you struggle with advanced monstrosities like that of your enemies.
11. Echo Night: Beyond.
Despite the surprisingly rare play that can combine space and traditional supernatural. Even though there were, I doubt that the most important sci-fi ghost adventures would be Echo Night: Beyond.
Echo Night: Beyond sees a newly married couple crash on the way to their honeymoon destination in the distance. What follows is a bizarre sci-fi story that emphasizes freeing the stricken spirit and nudging them by means of combat. To be honest, the game is still very scary. In fact, when you don’t watch the heart meter, you may die of frightenness. Keep listening to your heart meter when you play this.
10. My head is not mushy, and I am not supposed to shout.
While I was recently interested in this game and look at the most disturbing horror titles that have ever been made, nothing to excuse to talk about that truly twisted 1995 sci-fi horror title would be good.
There’s no left to swallow. You are the spies of the big cats that play wildly different characters. Despite their personal differences, each character is united in the fact that they have been captured by a computer who decided to conduct a serious test for pleasure and research. Some of the things you’ll see and do in this game are so horrible that I try not to describe them in the details. However, this is certainly one of the best sci-fi adventure adventures gaming has to offer.
9. Doom 3
The first major controversy about Doom 3 was that it was not part of the game. At that time, quite a few people who expecting the next great Doom shooter were stunned to learn that Doom 3 was actually a slightly more methodical horror title that ignored its effects and atmosphere. Of course those same qualities make Doom 3 one of the best games of this genre.
If you play this game that allows you to keep your flashlight up during your lifetime, there are moments that get under your skin in Doom 3. Yes, Doom 3 is mostly dependent on jump scares, but such scares are used in the game by lark corners, ominous sounds, and other environmental tricks. This is just an incredible example of what atmosphere can contribute to a horror game.
8. Observer
Blooper Team has many (often uncalled for) flaks for their elaborate fantasy cartoon games. As far as the forensics have gone, the discovery of their development history has proved that there’s a lot of titles in a studio that proves this studio is getting what makes modern games scary. While Observer is definitely an example of the studios’ ability to comprehend this genre, Id argue it’s Bloopers most ambitious horror game of the past.
This hack-punk horror game will serve the detective in order to solve crime. If that doesn’t seem scary to you, you have almost never delved in your own opinion. The psychedelic and often psychologically unnerving horror game takes you to take seriously those things that should have never left someone’s subconscious.
7. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shrine of Chernobyl: Shadow of the Chernobyl.
I never wanted a movie that would be so hot for Cold War veterans such as Threads and The Day after. Their often unrestrained visions of the end of everything really show that only the world is the end of the world. And then Shadow of Chernobyl in general gives a way to make one of those scary visions seem so scary!
A story with an alternate future in which mercenaries venture into the contaminated area around Chornobyl in search of strange treasures, the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is an augmented reality game that emphasizes the survival part of the equation. Even though this game has many mutated monsters, your biggest challenge will be fighting with radiation and dealing with problems that require constant resources. Even though it is usually loosely based on a real event, this game offers a terrifying glimpse of life on nuclear warteland, which, of course, to be a fictional vision of what could happen.
6. Prey
Prey isn’t certainly the scariest game on the list. There are aspects in this title that are boring you (a component of the games’ primary mechanics is usually a jump scare), but those who don’t generally think of certain horrors as too intense for them to become too very important are likely to still be able to work through that one.
However, Preys level design, storytelling, and mechanics that are the best as well as most modern graphics. If there are real futuristic scenes, this adventure could have done, but virtually any point of this titles world is often corrupted by unween and, unfortunately, the most recent. That is a rare example of potential this type of technology.
5. SOMA
Given the fact that SOMA is generated by Frictional Games (the same team responsible for the revolutionary Amnesia: The Dark Descent), I don’t need to say you its scary. There’s something that really makes SOMA stand out because of its sci-fi storytelling.
Simply put, SOMA is a science-fiction story that I’ve never experienced in a video game. The way that Frictional Games force you to endure these games musings on fate, identity, and technology will haunt you forever. Without saying anything to be ashamed of, it would probably be necessary for this unforgettable ending to earn one spot on that list.
4. Returnal
Returnal may have shockingly good bullet-hell style combat and some incredible Metroidvania design concepts; but a highlight of our 2021 GOTY is its real horror storytelling.
Returnal is one of the rare sci-fi horror novels that blends the deep and deep fantasy of the deeply personal with the nightmare of being stuck in a vacuum of space. Even though there are no definitive answers to these game’s biggest questions, that even having to spend much time on other aspects of its story will leave you feeling hollow. You’re not going to be able to stop diving further down this games rabbit hole.
3. Systems Shock 2 is required.
There are many great entries in the sci-fi subgenre of evil computer hates humanity. There’s a game like that already on this list. Yet there are many reasons why System Shock 2 is considered to be the greatest gaming occurrence of the weirdly classic concept.
System Shock 2 is a realistic example of atmosphere in a video game. Nearly every section of this game aims to bring you to a space station filled with sci-fi terrors that border on the supernatural. The worst thing is that you will soon discover a world you absolutely never want to lose. It’s absolutely cruel that this game is not as good as it is. Games like this unnerving shouldn’t look so good.
2. Isolation: Isolation: Isolation: a group of friends.
The Alien game has become very popular in the past, but for a long time, the dream of that horror game captures everything that made the original Alien great feel like it would remain a dream. This is until Alien: Isolation realized that the value of this concept was utterly so entirely that it almost made it easy to forget that Isolation is something of a dream game.
The Xenomorphs are like a canon fodder, while many other games, such as Alien can only use it to treat that creature as a flurry of humane objects that are used to attract aliens in an unfamiliar world. One Xenomorph easily exploded into the top of the scariest horror games ever made. A careful face mask can ruin the very worst horror movies, but the morphs are perfect for the plot and a series of Alien sequels and adaptations is really hard to forget. Isolation is a miracle that makes this creature feel just as scary as they did in 1979.
1. Dead Space
There is a strong argument that Dead Space is the best survival horror game ever made. As far as Dead Space does, Resident Evil is the biggest name in that genre. It is filled with all-time classics, but few more traditional survival horror games combine action, exploration and real horror moments, like the Red Space game.
That’s a real-life sci-fi game, but I suppose that some of Dead Spaces basic concepts would have worked if it were a zombie-like zombie game, but then it got all right that the movie would make something special. From the isolation of the games setting to the blue-collar needs and the advanced technological nature of the games tools and weapons, Dead Space explores the many ways that future will eventually be filled with new opportunities and the need for the future to confront horrors that were unconsidered.
Dead Space is the best event-horizon game ever. I certainly mean it as a compliment.
