Like countless individuals around the world, as soon as Valve’s portable handheld pre-orders began, I deposited my hard-earned money with SteamDeck. Unfortunately, however, protecting the new device was a nightmare experience to say the least – I would probably have expected it because the PS5 and Xbox Series X are still so hard to find.
Sadly, not receiving the pre-order immediately had dire consequences. I can’t rock my Steam deck until the second quarter of 2022. Still, knowing that a lucky sod pre-order will arrive in December 2021, it’s very painful to write.
The good side, I think, by that time my The Steam deck arrives (I didn’t want to see a moody face staring at me during a midnight game session, so I chose the 512GB model with an anti-glare etched screen). Hopefully it has been resolved by then.
Valve’s high goal of ensuring that all games on Steam work on the Steam deck must also be achieved at that time. At least I hope it will happen. I have an overcapacity desktop PC that proudly built myself from scratch during one horrifying weekend, but lately I spend a lot of time at my desk so I launch the game after work I feel that the mere idea is completely unbelievable.
Most of my time is currently spent playing games on the PS5 and Xbox Series X, but the Steam library has a lot of games I want to play on my portable device. There are no major compromises as seen on the “impossible” ports of the Nintendo Switch.
So while there is no guarantee that every game I want to play will be available on the Steam deck, I’m excited about the idea that these five games can be played anytime, anywhere, and … well, alone.
PUBG
Four years later, I still have a love-hate relationship with PUBG, but at this point it’s definitely going through a rough patch. Frankly, I spent a lot of time on the Xbox One version of the game (40 days, 9 hours, 12 minutes to be exact). To be honest, the visual perspective of the game since its release in 2017 on the Xbox console.
Running games on the Xbox Series X can reach at least 60 fps. This is certainly appreciated. But I’m used to it because I’m sacrificing the 4K resolution of the game. When I select the Frame Rate Priority option, PUBG drops to 1080p and the results when blown up on a 55-inch TV aren’t pretty.
But what’s worse, I also own PUBG on my PC. And let me tell you, when it comes to graphics, the difference between the two is similar to those hilarious “RTX on vs. RTX off” memes you might have seen. When running on a competent PC, it’s permissible to think of PUBG as a completely different game. As a result, playing the Xbox One version feels terribly outdated. However, dance emotes are still fun.
PUBG has come a long way 🤣 pic.twitter.com/ IrlQEuCqJVJuly 21, 2021
So I’m cautiously excited about the possibility of playing PUBG on Steam decks, but at the moment, certain anti-cheat software doesn’t work well with Linux, so SteamOS runs. Now I know the resolution drops to 720p, but that will be somewhat avoided by the handheld 7-inch display. However, what you should be able to do is run the game with much higher graphics settings than the features of the Xbox and PS4 versions. All PC-specific settings such as better drawing distance, higher texture, and wider FOV will be available.
Turn on the gyro control to fine-tune long-range sniper shots with the Kar98k. SteamDeck’s PUBG may rekindle a romantic relationship with PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. I’ll bring the next chicken dinner.
The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt
Confession Time: I have never completed The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. In fact, I’m not approaching. I’ve played Gwent a lot, but if it helps alleviate the feelings of anger you might have against me.
It’s not that I’ve never spent time with Gerald and Roach. But whenever I take a step (see Passing the Bloody Baron’s mission), something separates me: whether it’s work, another game, or I’ve been for hours. You just can’t sit still and play an RPG.
However, Steam Deck could finally be the solution needed to permanently ban The Witcher 3’s guilt. The game is already working well with traditional controls, and the Steam Deck spec allows you to get far more performance from the legendary titles of CD Projekt Red than you can with the Xbox One version (at least). Until the free next-generation update arrives …)
Of course, I fully know that the game is on the Switch, but I already own it on GOG and can’t do almost anything on Steam if needed. I’m also not ready to play The Witcher 3 at 540p resolution, hungry with an unstable cap at 30fps. Call me a snob if needed.
When I first heard that Konami’s eFootball was coming to the PC for free, I immediately thought of one thing. It means that you will be able to play full-fledged footy games on your handheld device.
I thought that was the case when FIFA 20 was announced for the Nintendo Switch, but the ported version of the EA game is a “legacy” version that is significantly inferior to the one available on the Xbox One and PS4, and it’s not. Therefore, I immediately postponed me. t Includes one of the major improvements, such as running on the Frostbite engine. As a result, I made a clear turn, and the decision seemed to be correct later. Starting with FIFA 20, the Switch version will only get new kits and squads. That is, in the same game as before, masked with different clothes.
Unlike the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game, EA has confirmed that it can’t enjoy the gameplay and animation improvements that come with HyperMotion technology, so FIFA 22 is also an option that can be run on a PC. It will not be. , Anything that can have a game-changing effect.
However, Konami states that all versions of the game will include new motion touch technology, so eFootball promises to be different. Konami also guarantees that the PC version of PES, formerly known as eFootball, is always up to date, so I don’t think anything will change here.
eFootball is free to play with a limited number of teams and modes, but it includes Arsenal, the only team I play anyway. Tired of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta telling his fans to “trust the process,” I look forward to making the right signatures and tactical decisions in eFootball’s Master League mode. This doesn’t happen very often in my beloved club. ..
Red Dead Redemption 2
Another game that embarrasses your head is Red Dead Redemption 2. Despite spending countless hours on the PC version and completing John Marston’s adventures on the Xbox 360, he hasn’t reached the end credits for Rockstar’s famous sequel. For the complex setup I created.
As you can see, after really worried about playing Red Dead Redemption 2 on Xbox One X, there is also a combination of the 30 fps cap and the fact that the input lag of rock star games is very high, so we chose the nuclear option. I bought it. Games on your PC. The problem is that I wanted to experience it on TV to enjoy the benefits of HDR. This led to the type of clumsy scheme that partners have become accustomed to sadly.
I jumped on Amazon and bought a 25 meter HDMI cable so I could connect my PC to my TV. And after carefully meandering my home in the most classy and unobtrusive way possible, I was finally able to play Red Dead Redemption 2. Large screen. But what I didn’t consider was that the distance between the PC and the new playspace was close to unstable, close to the maximum distance Bluetooth could provide. This means that the audio tends to be cut off when wearing headphones and a wireless controller. So unless you sit on the edge of the sofa, it’s as comfortable as you might think.
At this point, I just want to end the game. So, like The Witcher 3, if you play on the Steam deck, you may finally be able to tell your friends that you’ve completed Red Dead Redemption 2. Valve’s portable should be able to run Red Dead Redemption 2 near 60fps (crossing fingers), but you might have to make a big sacrifice when it comes to visuals … jokingly, I’m going to end it there is no. NS?
Age of Empires 4
Real-time strategy games aren’t as playable as they used to be on consoles, but they’re not really optimized for analog sticks and some face button pairs yet. However, a Steam deck with two trackpads, grip buttons, and a touchscreen is not only equipped to handle the latest RTS games, but could also play the Age of Empires 4 on Valve’s portable devices. I have.
As someone who hasn’t fully understood the trackpad on a Steam controller, I’m still hesitant about whether a pair of mouse-like inputs on a Steam deck feels more intuitive, but I’m still optimistic. Playing games that are typically dedicated to mice and keyboards may be one of Steam Deck’s greatest benefits, and Age of Empires 4 is a great candidate to test its pace.
It’s still unclear if the 7-inch display can accurately convey all the on-screen information needed for these types of games, but the last memory of having fully enjoyed RTS games is command and concur. It goes back. Red Alert, I look forward to returning my toes to the genre that passed me.
Now that I’m better off working on that time machine, I’ll skip into the second quarter of 2022 and get a Steam deck before I die in anticipation.
