On PC, Forza Horizon 5 players are encountering graphical issues

Forza Horizon 5 is easily one of the most visually appealing games available right now. It expertly recreates Mexico’s diverse biomes, from sandy deserts to lush forests and craggy crags. It does a fantastic job of breaking the’sepia tone’ preconception that has developed over time. Not to mention the stunning reflections created by ray tracing on every polished surface. It’s a shame that some PC gamers won’t be able to appreciate the game’s famous visuals.

But if you think maybe this person needs a better system, one of the commenters has an RTX 3060 and is also plagued with “dog shit” graphics. Unfortunately I too have been facing these issues. Environment textures don’t fully load until you’re a few meters away, and the foliage looks like it belongs to an Xbox 360 game. I have an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti with 16GB ram; while it’s not the most advanced setup, it falls well within Horizon 5’s recommended specifications.

If you check out the official subreddit now, you’ll get multiple scrolls of posts complaining about the game’s grainy graphics, texture popping, and other graphical issues. “i have a mid range gaming pc with a 1660 ti and a i5 9500 cpu, the game auto set my graphics to high which i thought may be a good sign” reads one post. however when i loaded in everything seems pixilated , my car the environment, other cars, spectators”.

I also dabbled with the advanced graphical settings, putting Environment Texture and Geometry Quality to Extreme, switching ray tracing off completely, and trying a bunch of other recommended presets, but always at the expense of another graphical element.

Given the number of complaints about these issues, it’s rather surprising that there isn’t much of a conversation about it. While it’s obvious that the Xbox Series X|S is its focus, Microsoft often claims that it cares for its PC audience as well.

Scour the comments of any one of these numerous posts and you’ll see players hopeful that Playground Games will address this soon. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it’s on the list, as the latest tweet on the Forza Support handle only talks about a postponed hotfix for PC crashing, wheel, and connection issues. And if you head on over to the ‘known issues’ page, it’s blank as of this writing.
