Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy XBOX
The Xbox series X has been with us for over a year now. And in that time Microsoft’s next-generation console has been breaking sales records all over the place. Yet, despite its apparent success the Xbox series X is still almost impossible to find in stock anywhere in the UK, both in-store and online.
Bottlenecks in the manufacturing process as a result of a worldwide supply chain crisis and semiconductor shortage have slowed the production of Microsoft’s next-generation console to a near-standstill, leaving shoppers in the UK wondering where to buy an Xbox.
The smaller, less powerful and much cheaper Xbox series S is easier to find in stock, but the more advanced Xbox series X sells out within minutes of hitting the shelves. Knowing when and where the newest Xbox will be restocked next is key to grabbing one before they sell out again.
That’s why we launched our Xbox stock alerts liveblog. If you’re wondering where to buy an Xbox series X in the UK today, we’re here to help. Below, we’ll update you with the latest live restock updates as soon as they happen, as well as any news on predicted restock dates, new games and accessories and milestone events.

Where is the Xbox series X in stock right now?
Right now, the Xbox series X is sold out everywhere.
So let’s start poking around a few retailers and rating their chances of restocking the Xbox today, shall we?
First up we’ve got Amazon, which last restocked the Xbox series X on Friday, 29 October. The retailer restocks every three weeks on average, which puts us slap bang in the middle of our predicted restock date. Keep one eye on the product page for any movement.

When did Argos last restock the Xbox series X?
It’s been months since Argos restocked the Xbox for delivery, but yesterday the retailer had the console available for click and collect from its physical stores up and down the country. It was a roll of the dice whether your nearest branch had any Xboxes to speak of, but it’s worth adding your post code today to see if your local Argos has the Xbox series X in stock.
The best way to buy an Xbox series X from Argos is through the app. Add the console to your wish list, which lets you slip the Xbox into your basket in advance for a speedy checkout when the time comes.

What’s the difference between Xbox series X and series S?
(Microsoft)
Before the next Xbox series X restock, let’s take a moment to brush up on the fundamentals. Know your enemy and all that.
There are two next-gen Xboxes, the less powerful Xbox series S and the top-of-the-range Xbox series X.
All Xbox games old and new will run on both consoles, though on the less powerful Xbox series S the overall graphics quality will be dialled down. The Xbox series S does not have a disc drive, has half the storage capacity and can only play downloaded games. The Xbox series S is much easier to find in stock than the series X. It’s also cheaper and costs just £249 (Amazon.co.uk).
Here are the details, if you’re into comparing teraflops.

When will Smyths Toys restock the Xbox?
Game last restocked the Xbox series X on 11 November, when it piped a steaming hot stream of Halo Infinite bundles into our laps. Before that the retailer was restocking Microsoft’s newest console pretty frequently near the end of October, and even found time to restock the infamous and inexplicably popular Xbox mini-fridge.
Game is co-ordinated about its Xbox restocks, synchronising drops across all of its stores at once. We’re estimating more Xbox All Access stock will appear at Game next week, but it could happen as early as today. The retailer’s been known to restock on a Friday.
Pre-orders can sometimes be made in-store, depending on the branch, so it’s worth popping into your local Game if you’re passing by to ask about stock.

How to buy an Xbox series X online
Before the next restock arrives, let’s go over some things you can do right now to be ready when the next restock happens.
- Register an account at each of the retailers that stock the Xbox series X. They’re listed in the main article above.
- Ensure your correct payment details are saved in your browser on desktop, or on Google Pay or Apple Pay on your phone.
- Are you a BT customer, or know somebody who is? Register your interest on the BT site to get exclusive access to BT’s next drop.
- Sign up for a 30-day trial of Amazon Prime, in case the retailer makes its next Xbox drop a Prime-exclusive.
- Download each retailer’s app (if they have one) and add the Xbox series X to your wish list or “save for later” list.
- When the console drops, use the link in your wish list to add the Xbox to your trolley or basket – this usually has a higher success rate than navigating through the website.
- Keep note of the prices of bundles to ensure you’re getting a good deal. Rounding up, the console itself is £450, controllers are £50, the official headset is £90, and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate costs £11 per month. Newly released games are between £40 and £60, but retailers usually bundle older games with the console.
- The pay-as-you-go Xbox All Access programme is good value for money, so long as you don’t already have a Game Pass subscription.
Don’t buy a console on social media, these are always scams.

The limited edition ‘Halo Infinite’ branded Xbox series X
(Microsoft)
We’re tracking both types of Xbox series X: the vanilla Xbox series X (£449.99, Amazon.co.uk) and the Halo Infinite branded Xbox series X (£479.99, Microsoft Store), which officially launched on Monday. Neither is in stock right now, quelle suprise.
The even rarer Xbox is identical to the standard model on the inside, but celebrates 20 years of Master Chief with “a custom console design imprinted with stars as seen from the surface of Zeta Halo – extending onto the fan behind a blue vent inspired by Cortana.” It also comes with Halo Infinite pre-installed.
