Omega Esports goes global with new Dota 2 squad
Omega Esports veered way from its usual all-Filipino five for the upcoming DPC SEA 2021- 22 Tour 1 next month
Omega announced that it has tapped Indonesian Ramzi “Ramz” Bayhaki, Malaysian Liew Jun “Eren” Jie and South Korean and The International veteran Lee “Forevs” Sang-don.
Prince “Prince” Daculan and Ryniel Kiet “Zenki” Calvez were the only two Filipino holdovers from the squad that saw action in the BTS Pro Series: Southeast Asia Season 9.
Sri Lankan Shenal “AB” Daniel will be the team’s analyst while Chris Ian “CTY” Francis Maldo was named as head coach.
“Comprised of 7 individuals from across the globe, we are proud to introduce the Smart Omega – Dota 2 roster for the new DPC Season. We have confident that our new lineup can go head-to-head with the fully stacked SEA Upper Division this season,” said Omega in a statement.
All eyes will be on Forevs who had competed in two iterations of The International, first with MVP Phoenix in 2016 and with Digital Chaos in 2017.
Forevs’ experience will be key if the Philippine-based esports organization hopes to compete in the stacked SEA region where they are set to face Dota 2 giants T1 and Fnatic. Also in the upper division are OB Esports x Neon, TNC Predator, Execration, Motivate.Trust Gaming and Team SMG.
Nonetheless, Omega expressed its confidence that the young squad is capable of shocking everyone in the Division I of the DPC SEA Tour.
“We have confidence that our new lineup can go head-to-head with the fully stacked SEA Upper Division this season.”
