FORT MYERS, Fla. — Wisconsin-Superior softball finally met its match on Wednesday, March 16, losing for the first time in 2022, 5-0 to Wilmington, then losing again 4-3 to Brockport.
Against Wilmington, UWS was shut out on four hits and hurt its own cause with three errors.
Tayler Kraemer allowed five runs (three earned) on eight hits in a complete game. She struck out four and walked one. Jessica Jacobson was the only Yellowjacket with multiple hits, going 2-for-3.
Against Brockport, the Yellowjackets had a 3-1 lead going to the bottom of the seventh but were victimized by a two-out rally. With two on, two out and a run in, Brockport got two singles to tie the game, then won it on an infield error.
Seven Yellowjackets had one hit apiece, with Jacobson’s being a solo homer in the top of the seventh and Norah Schmitz’s a two-run single in the fourth.
UWS (8-2) has Thursday off before facing Oneonta and SUNY-Canton on Friday.
UWS dominated by Brockport
Wisconsin-Superior got dominated at bat and in the field on Wednesday, losing both ends of a doubleheader to Brockport, 21-2 and 7-0 in Auburndale, Fla., on Wednesday.
In game one, Brockport scored eight times in the first inning and led 16-0 after three.
Jack Barnett took the loss on the mound, while the UWS offense featured seven players with one hit apiece.
In game two, Brockport’s Jake Jempty shut out the Yellowjackets on four hits, two of them by Jordan Trimble. Isaac Fugere allowed five earned runs on three hits in two innings to take the loss.
UWS (1-8) has Thursday off before facing Stockton on Friday.
