FIFA 22 has become free on PS4 and PS5 as part of PS Plus in May 2022, and it is not crossplay with Xbox yet but a cross platform multiplayer test is incoming.
It’s a great game for football lovers and hooligans. As we get closer to September and October, we should learn about the next instalment which leaks suggest may be free-to-play and have world cup modes.
Leaks also suggest that the next instalment will have cross platform multiplayer from launch, and this could very much happen as a test is arriving soon.

Is FIFA 22 crossplay?
FIFA 22 is not crossplay, but a cross platform multiplayer test between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC is on the way.
Unfortunately, there’s no date for the test as of writing, but EA says it is coming in the ‘near future’. This is very exciting as the ability to play with friends on other systems has been part of many fans’ wishlists for a few years now.

Can PS4 play with PS5?
PS4 players cannot play against those on PS5, and the same goes for Xbox One users with Series X/S.
This is because the game on last and current-gen consoles is different. One of the biggest differences between last and current-gen versions is the graphics and the exclusive implementation of hypermotion for PS5 and Series X/S.
EA’s website says that they motion captured an 11v11 match and this combined with their proprietary machine learning technology delivers the most realistic experience yet.
The PS Plus May 2022 free games include FIFA 22 for PS4 and PS5. This means you can download the version that corresponds with your console.
How to play FIFA 22 cross platform multiplayer test
EA’s pitch notes FAQ says that only FIFA 22 players on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Stadia will be able to play the cross platform multiplayer test.
Crossplay will only be available for Online Friendlies and Online Seasons. You will be able to invite friends on other systems as well as compete against strangers on other platforms through organic matchmaking.
You will be able to opt-in and opt-out of cross platform action once the test begins. And you will know when you’re playing against someone on a different system by noticing a specific indicator.
