After months of tests and teases, MultiVersus is finally ready to join the big leagues.
Warner Bros. and Player First Games are all set to launch MultiVersus’ Open Beta on Tuesday, July 26, and we’re here to tell you everything you need to know to get started in the new platform fighting game — including when exactly you can begin playing.
As was previously announced, the MultiVersus Open Beta release will be available to players in North America, South America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand at 9 a.m. PDT / 6 p.m. CET.
It is almost strange to call this a “beta,” however, since users will carry over their progression to the “full release” along with premium items being available to purchase.
The game is free-to-play across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC with cross-platform play and progression available for all systems.
There are 17 characters available upon the beta’s launch although seemingly only 5 of them will be immediately available for free players being Shaggy, Wonder Woman, Jake, Taz and Harley Quinn.
Batman, Superman, Iron Giant, Garnet, Steven Universe, Reindog, Finn, Velma, Arya Stark, Bugs Bunny and Tom & Jerry will need to be unlocked with in-game coins or 700 Gleamium, MVS’ premium currency, which equates to $7 USD.
LeBron James will also be dropping on July 26 too.
While unlocking those characters is required to use them in online matches, every character is available in Training / The Lab and offline play.
Each fighter across the WB-verse has at least 1 additional costume as well, but almost all of them require Gleamium in some fashion to acquire.
You can find a breakdown of the character and costume prices for MultiVersus here, including Batman’s The Animated Series design being sold for essentially $20.
Other modes included in the MVS Open Beta are 1 vs. 1, Teams, Co-op vs. AI, Free-for-all, Tutorials, and custom lobbies.
Players can level up their player, character and Battle Pass ranks to acquire more coins and accessories.
Unlike Super Smash Bros. and most other platform fighters, MultiVersus focuses on its 2 vs. 2 as its preferred way to play, so characters have unique abilities that can help their partners in a number of creative ways.
For those who do not wish to spend time grinding to unlock characters, there are 3 versions of the MultiVersus Founder’s Pack available to give players instant access to the game and its fighters.
The standard Founder’s Pack costs $40 and comes with instant access to the beta, 15 character tokens for unlocks, 1 banner and 300 Gleamium.
The Deluxe Founder’s Pack includes 20 character tokens, 1 Premium Battle Pass, 1 more banner, 1 Ring Out Effect and 1,000 Gleamium for $60.
And finally, the Premium Founder’s Pack features 30 character tokens, 3 Premium Battle Passes, 2 Ring Out Effects, 1 nameplate and 2,500 Gleamium for $100.
Even before the Open Beta is available to all, MultiVersus already reached a player count higher than all other fighting games on Steam combined, so things may soon get even crazier.
Since this is an open beta, don’t be surprised if server issues occur in the first few days, and characters / stages labeled as experimental may contain bugs that haven’t been fixed.
There is no window announced for when the full release will be launched, but the developers have promised to offer continual updates to the game for a long, long time.
