Avatar: The Last Airbender has had a number of video game adaptations over the years, perhaps most famously 2007’s Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Burning Earth, which lets players unlock 1,000 Gamerscore in about five minutes. Most of the Avatar video game adaptations have failed to live up to the high bar set by the animated series, but the freshly-leaked Avatar: The Last Airbender – Quest for Balance certainly sounds like it has potential.
Avatar: The Last Airbender news site Avatar News has published a report on the leaked Avatar: The Last Airbender RPG Quest for Balance. The site claims to have seen footage for the game, which will apparently launch on November 8 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The outlet compares Avatar: The Last Airbender – Quest for Balance to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in terms of the game’s visual style, though stresses that gameplay between the two is much different.
Whereas The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is an open world game, Avatar: The Last Airbender – Quest for Balance is not. According to the outlet, the game is about the Order of the White Lotus recapping the events of the animated series, with players going through the entire storyline, but with some key changes because of who is telling each story. As explained by Avatar News, the events of Book One: Water will be covered by Pakku, while Book Two: Earth will be covered by Bumi, and Book Three: Fire will be covered by fan favorite character Iroh. Avatar News said that the game will be “kind of like Avatar‘s What If…?” and while they only saw Aang in action, it’s their understanding there could be more playable characters.
If Avatar: The Last Airbender – Quest for Balance is real, one has to imagine that fans will learn about the game in an official capacity sooner rather than later. After all, the game is supposedly pegged for a November 8 release date, which means that the publisher has only a few months to promote it. Gamescom Opening Night Live is set to take place on August 23, so maybe the game will have its grand unveiling at the event. Then again, it may be announced completely independent of any major gaming events, or the leaks may be inaccurate and it’s going to come later than expected.
Franchise fans should wait for an official announcement before getting too excited about Avatar: The Last Airbender – Quest for Balance. But while the console RPG has yet to be announced, fans can check out the Avatar: Generations tactical RPG that’s been rolling out to select territories for Android and iOS devices.
