The Splatoon 3: Splatfest World Premiere event is set to kickoff on Saturday, August 27, but Nintendo is giving fans a chance to jump into the Splatlands early.
Starting today, fans can download the Splatoon 3 demo on Nintendo Switch, two days early. While you’ll have to wait until the weekend to partake in multiplayer, the early demo gives you a chance to create your Inkling or Octoling, stylize your Little Buddy companion and explore a bit. After completing the tutorial missions and learning the basics of the game, you’ll hop on a train and explore Splatsville.
Although you’re free to walk around the city and visit its shops, you won’t actually be able to buy anything yet as you can’t participate in online battles to level up yet. But you will be able to select your team — Rock, Paper or Scissors — for the upcoming three-way Splatfest. The Splatoon 3: Splatfest World Premiere demo will officially kick off on August 27 and let us experience the newly introduced Tricolor Turf War battles. The Splatfest event will begin on August 27 at 9:00 a.m. PT and run until 9:00 p.m. PT.
Even though the Splatoon 3: Splatfest World Premiere demo is completely free to download on Nintendo Switch, you will need a Nintendo Switch Online membership to play. Thankfully, you’ll receive a free 7-day trial of it when you download the demo. This will be the only chance to test Splatoon 3 before its launch on September 9.
In anticipation of the game’s release next month, Nintendo recently held a Direct presentation that focused solely on Spltaoon 3. In the 30-minute video, which you can watch below, Nintendo covers a ton of new features and exciting additions in Splatoon 3. We get a glimpse of new battle stages and maneuvers, new weapons, details about Splatoon 3’s three main game modes (Story Mode, Ruft War and Salmon Run), and more.
