AUGUSTA, GA – The Peach Belt Conference will embark upon a major expansion of its Esports offerings this weekend with the debut of Valorant and Rocket League, both new titles for the conference.
Valorant is a 5-on-5 tactical shooter with two teams facing off on a variety of maps. Each player selects an Agent character with their own unique abilities to either attack or defend a position agains their opponents. Teams will play a best-of-three maps to decide the winners. Valorant matches will be held online each Saturday at 3pm. Valorant is published by Riot Games.
Rocket League has been a mainstay in the Esports community since its debut in 2015. Developed by Psyonix and currently published by Epic Games, the game is soccer, but with rocket-powered cars. Two teams of three players each battle in a five-minute set. The PBC will utilize the industry-standard best-of-five format for regular-season matches. Rocket League matches will be held each Sunday at 3:00 pm this fall.
The season for both titles will culminate on Oct. 21-22 with the PBC Esports Fall Championships, held for the second straight year at the Florence Center in Florence, S.C. Teams will play in-person in the main arena, with separate stages for Rocket League and Valorant operating concurrently.
In addition to the two new titles, the Peach Belt has also introduced a tiered teams system. Those teams playing in the Masters Division will be eligible to compete for the titles in Florence and are the top varsity teams for their institutions. The Champions Division gives each institution the opportunity to field a second team or provide a place for new or restructuring teams to compete. Champions Division teams have their own schedule and will play in their own online championships Oct. 15-16.
