Day One Xbox Game Pass Title Atomic Heart Gets Publisher, Release Window Confirmed

Atomic Heart, the upcoming action-RPG developed by Mundfish, announces its publisher and a proper release window, which may disappoint some.

Upcoming action-RPG Atomic Heart has announced that Focus Entertainment will be the game’s publisher, and a release window of Winter 2022 has also been revealed. Coming from Russia-based developer Mundfish, Atomic Heart was initially revealed in 2017, but following that, it entered years of radio silence. In recent months, the game has re-emerged, showing off new trailers and confirming a 2022 release window. However, as the year has gone by and Mundfish has failed to confirm a specific date for when Atomic Heart will launch, some began to question whether the game could come out in 2022.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Previously, Mundfish stated that the idea about it pushing back the release date for Atomic Heart was false, following a rumor stating that the day one Xbox Game Pass release would be moved from a late 2022 date to one sometime in 2023. Even following a month of work stoppage, Mundfish stated that Atomic Heart was on track for its launch date in 2022. However, recent news may yet confirm that the upcoming open-world title won’t be able to meet its targeted launch.

This news comes from an announcement by Atomic Heart’s recently acquired publisher, Focus Entertainment, a French video game company founded in 1996 that is also set to publish the upcoming A Plague Tale: Requiem, the sequel to 2019’s A Plague Tale: Innocence. Focus Entertainment has revealed that Atomic Heart is set to release in Winter 2022. Again, this isn’t an exact date, but it does give fans a better idea of when they could get the game.

Unfortunately, this may indicate that Atomic Heart will indeed be delayed to 2023. Winter 2022, in terms of game releases, can indicate that the title could come out towards the end of the year in December, but it more likely indicates that the period between January and March 2023 is a realistic launch date for Atomic Heart. It still appears that Mundfish is hard at work on the game and showing off more features of it. Recently, a new Atomic Heart trailer gave a close look at the combat systems, telling fans how they can survive the harsh apocalyptic setting.

Even if fans are waiting until 2023 to see an Atomic Heart release date, it still won’t be too long before they get their hands on the game, especially if Mundfish can stick to the predicted Winter 2022 window. Atomic Heart has clearly come a long way since it was revealed, and it will be interesting to see what some are calling the “Soviet BioShock.”

Atomic Heart releases in Winter 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
