Faulkner University Dedicates Esports Arena | News

Faulkner University held a dedication ceremony on September 8th for their brand new Esports arena which is officially named the Regitar USA High Res Arena.

The arena, located on the second floor of the Freeman – Harrison student multiplex, was made possible in part by a contribution from Regitar USA President and CEO Dr. Y.T. Tsai. The arena will be the team’s home base as it competes against a growing number of collegiate Esports teams from universities such as Mississippi State.

“It is truly our honor to sponsor the Esports arena,” Dr. Tsai says. “We wish the Esports team the best of luck for the season.”

Esports coach Caleb Colquitt led a tour of the arena which holds over two dozen computer consoles as well as a mobile gaming station which can be taken on the road to aid in recruiting. Colquitt also says the arena has already become a place where students gather even when they are not having tournaments or practices.

Faulkner University president Mitch Henry pointed out that “a lot of the members of our Esports team are computer science majors.” He said having these bright students on campus increases academic competition and drives others to work harder.

When asked if the Esports team offers members scholarships the way other sports do, Henry says, “not the whole team but just about everyone on the team is on at least a partial scholarship.”

The Eagles Esports season will begin later this month and Henry says, “we’re excited about the future of the esports team.”
