Female gamers will compete in early May to reach the Pro Exhibition.
- Programme launched as part of F1’s ‘We Race as One’ initiative
- Fastest time from wildcard draft to potentially compete in Pro Championship
Formula One has announced plans to implement a F1 Esports Series Women’s Wildcard, a female-only qualification route to the Pro Series in a bid to boost female involvement.
The qualification route is open to female competitors only as part of Formula One’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) programme, ‘We Race as One’.
There has never been a female driver competing in professional Formula One esports ranks and the series is hoping that the Women’s Wildcard will encourage a more equal gender balance in the competition.
As part of the Women’s Wildcard draft, drivers will compete to set the fastest lap time on Codemasters’ F1 2020 game in early May.
The driver who sets the fastest time will be invited to take part in the Pro Exhibition, a series of in-game assessments for Formula One Esports teams to pick competitors for their Pro Championship rosters.
The Women’s Wildcard qualifier will be broadcast on 27th May via YouTube, Facebook, Twitch and Huya.
