The Philippines is one of the 60 national teams that will be part of the third edition of the FIBA Esports Open which will start on Friday, April 16.

“The popularity of the FIBA Esports Opens is plain to see, with 17 national teams having taken part in the inaugural esports competition last June and then 38 in the recent FIBA Esports Open II,” the basketball body said in a statement released on Tuesday.

The Philippines will play in the South-East Asia Conference of the tournament, along with Indonesia, Mongolia, Maldives, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam.

Aside from the South-East Asia Conference, the games of the Africa and Middle East conferences will be held this weekend.

FIBA Esports Open III will also make history because for the first time, the North & Central America and Europe Conferences will have two divisions: Current Generation, which will play PS4, and the Next Generation, which will play PS5. Their tournament will start on April 23.

The Philippines topped the Southeast Asia Conference during the inaugural edition of the FIBA Esports Open in June 2020.
