Would be PS5 owners in India may not have to wait too long for a restock if one of Sony’s own official retail partners is to be believed. Thane-based Jai Ganesh Games had put up an Instagram story stating that the PS5 disc version as well as PS5 Digital Edition would be “coming soon”. As always IGN India reached out to Sony for comment. While we didn’t receive any response from the company (as always), Jai Ganesh Games removed its Instagram story two hours after we got in touch — well ahead of Instagram’s 24-hour duration for stories. It is possible that the retailer may have prematurely announced the PS5’s India restock date and possibly took it down after Sony noticed it.
In the run up to the PS5 India launch, Sony confirmed that the PS5 Digital Edition would skip the country. Though if Jai Ganesh’s listing is accurate, the PS5 Digital Edition is well on the way. While the retailer removed its Instagram story, it put up a post with that version front and centre minus any signage indicating an immediate release.
PS5 India Restock to Be Impacted By Coronavirus Lockdown
Nonetheless, with parts of the country in lockdown due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic as well as some states like Maharashtra prohibiting the sale of non-essential goods, it is quite likely that PS5 India restocks may be delayed.
Similar to last year’s lockdown, many retailers and distributors are still awaiting clarity from the government as to how and when they would be able to sell non-essentials. This is because unlike last year’s lockdown, imports and their clearances have not been stopped.
Furthermore, fresh PS5 stocks have landed in the country earlier this month as IGN reported earlier. While it seems that the PS5 India restock quantity would be substantial, it is still unknown what is the exact quantity of consoles that have landed in India.
With Microsoft’s Xbox Series S taking retail by storm, the company’s 90 percent market share is under threat. It’ll be interesting to see how Sony manages to navigate these issues. Last year it did an excellent job ensuring The Last of Us Part 2 was available across the country. Assuming it obtains the necessary clarity for distribution and delivery, perhaps it could do the same for the PS5.
