The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers improved their record to 2-0 with a 6-2 win over the visiting Windom Area Eagles. The game was played on Monday, April 12, with temperatures hovering in the high 40s and winds in the 15-25 miles per hour range.
After holding Windom Area scoreless in the top of the first inning, the Bucs scored one run in the home half of the inning to take a 1-0 lead. Keegan O’Brien led off the inning with a walk and moved to second when Adam Schavey was hit by a pitch. O’Brien scored when the Eagles failed to handle a grounder off the bat of Anders Fering.
BEA added two more runs in both the third and fourth innings and one more in the sixth to complete their scoring.
The Bucs had six hits during the game including a triple by O’Brien and doubles by Ryan Madetzke and Cole Warmka.
Madetzke went 2-for-3 to lead the Bucs in hitting.
Anthony Carr picked up the win by pitching five innings and giving up one run while striking out five Windom Area batters and walking none. Logan O’Hara pitched the final two innings and allowed one run on one hit. He walked two batters.
“Anthony did a wonderful job pitching today,” BEA head coach Todd Schmidtke said. “He had good control and did not walk any batters. Our defense played well and did not have any errors.”

The Blue Earth Area baseball team opened their season on the road on April 10, in Welcome, against the Martin County West Mavericks.
Although the temperature may have been cold, the Bucs’ bats were hot. BEA had 13 hits and they pounded out a 20-2 victory over the Mavericks.
The Maroon and Gold jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first inning. They added two more runs in the top of the second and then exploded for 12 runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Keegan O’Brien singled to left in the top of the first to get things started for BEA. The senior stole second and came around to score on Adam Schavey’s single to right field.
A stolen base and an error on a ball hit off the bat of Logan O’Hara put runners at the corners. A walk to Anthony Carr loaded the bases. Ryan Madetzke hit a sacrifice fly to plate Schavey with the second run of the game. Parker Meyers hit into a groundout to bring home O’Hara.
Following two walks and two hit batsmen, O’Brien delivered another single and the Bucs lead was 6-0.
BEA’s 12-run sixth inning include a home run off the bat of O’Hara who also singled in the inning.
Three Buc pitchers combined to toss a no hitter.
O’Brien started the game on the mound for the Bucs and gave up one run and four walks, while hitting two batters in two innings of work. He also struck out four Maverick batters.
Carr pitched the next two innings. He hit one batter while recording three strike outs in the fourth inning.
Madetzke, who started the game catching, pitched the last two innings and gave up one unearned run while striking out one batter.
O’Brien reached base four times. He doubled, had two singles and a walk. Schavey reached base five times with three singles, a walk and he was hit by a pitch. O’Hara also had a multiple hit game. The junior singled and had a home run.
