Looking for the latest PS5 news today? We’ve got all of that and a PS5 Console Stock Update below.
We should warn you though, it isn’t getting any easier to buy one.
PS5 Console Stock Update
If you’re looking for a PS5 console still, we have some bad news. It seems like it’s still going to be a huge task to get your hands on one as severe stock shortages continue across all the major UK retailers.
StockInformer confirms that there isn’t anywhere with any PS5 stock at the moment and a lot of the major retailers are saying May at the absolute earliest. GAME’s update states late May, which is less than ideal.
There’s always CEX and eBay though. They sell second-hand consoles, so you’ll need to be wary of what you’re buying, but they always have stock. Just be cautious as they often have this listed at an inflated price, too.
Major PS Store Update
SIE recently reported that they were shutting down the PS3 and PS Vita PlayStation Stores in the summer. This, as you can imagine, was met with some degree of backlash and now Jim Ryan (SIE CEO) has announced that this will not be happening.
You can check out a couple of snippets from the PlayStation Blog announcement here:
” When we initially came to the decision to end purchasing support for PS3 and PS Vita, it was born out of a number of factors, including commerce support challenges for older devices and the ability for us to focus more of our resources on newer devices where a majority of our gamers are playing on.”
” We see now that many of you are incredibly passionate about being able to continue purchasing classic games on PS3 and PS Vita for the foreseeable future, so I’m glad we were able to find a solution to continue operations.”
That being said, commerce for PSP consoles will fully retire on July 2nd as originally planned. It may not be exactly what you wanted to hear, but it’s something of a victory for fans of the older generations.
Play At Home Update
If you missed it yesterday, Horizon: Zero Dawn Complete Edition is free to play on PlayStation consoles via the Play At Home Initiative!
From now until May 14th, anyone on PS4 and PS5 can get their hands on this epic PlayStation exclusive title for free. This version of the game comes with The Frozen Wilds expansion, too, which adds on around fifteen to twenty hours of gameplay to HZD’s main game.
As for the rest of the titles, you have until April 22nd at 20:00 PST / 01:00 EST (April 23rd) / 04:00 BST (April 23rd) to download them for free.
Call of Duty Season Three Revealed
Activision and Treyarch have been busy preparing for Warzone’s “Nuke Event” tomorrow and now we know what’s coming to Call of Duty in Season Three!
Four new Operators, six new weapons, four new Multiplayer maps and a whole lot more is on the way in Season Three. You can check out a first look at the roadmap below:
Black Ops Cold War & Warzone Season Three is due to release on April 22nd following the climactic Warzone “Nuke Event” on April 21st at 12:00 PST / 15:00 EST / 20:00 BST
New Releases & Updates
In addition to this, the highly-anticipated MLB The Show 21 is out now! It is, however, full-price on PS4 and PS5 consoles.
This has proven somewhat controversial given the fact that it is a PlayStation Studios title and it’s free on Xbox Game Pass, but there are reports that this was MLB’s decision, not Sony’s.
FIFA 21’s Community Team of the Season voting for FUT is already well underway, too. This will see the players vote for a full TOTS squad before FIFA’s “official” squad is revealed.
Furthermore, yesterday we got our first look at the next major Apex Legends update: Apex Legends Legacy. This was through another cinematic short from the Stories from the Outlands series.
This introduced Valkyrie as the next playable Legend, but the Apex Legends site also confirmed that Olympus was changing and that a new Bocek Bow was coming in the next seasonal update.
