Czopik Tabbed eSports Head Coach

UNION, N.J (9/27/21) – The Kean University athletics department has announced the hiring of Matthew Czopik as the first ever head coach of the eSports program.

“I’m excited to grow Kean’s eSports presence on campus and make Kean a primary destination for eSports.” said Czopik.

He­ will lead the eSports team in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Rainbow Six Siege, Valorant, Overwatch, Rocket League, Fortnite and others. Kean’s co-ed eSports team became the 15th Kean Athletics program and will compete against teams from other universities as part of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) eSports division.

Czopik just graduated from the University in the spring with a bachelor degree in Computer Science (Information System Option). During his time at Kean, Czopik was in the Kean eSports Club and was a game manager for Overwatch. He managed the club’s Division I Overwatch team, while registering for tournaments, running tryouts and conducting scrimmages.

He has competitive skills in games like Apex Legends, Overwatch, Fortnite and Call of Duty. In Apex Legends he competed in the 2019 Battle for the East, Apex Predator (Season 2 and Season 3), and Masters (Season 4).

In Overwatch, Czopik has a career high of 3726 SR and an overall average of 3300 SR with scrimmage and tournament experience as well. 

Czopik was also a Tournament Organizer and Social Media Manager at Saber VR Arcade in Freehold.  At Saber VR, he managed multiple tournaments for 12 to 50 people, coordinated with a team of 6 to 10 people to provide the best experience for tournament customers and handled social media posts for Twitter and Instagram.
