It’s a pretty safe bet that everyone reading this has at least one McDonald’s toy floating around somewhere in your house. You either bought it for your children or, if we’re being honest here, for yourself and it now either sits proudly on a shelf or at the bottom of a box in your closet.
However, McDonald’s in Australia, where the fast food chain is known as Maccas, has come up with what could be one of the greatest promotional items ever seen. Instead of a cheap piece of plastic will be long forgotten, they are giving out PS5 McDonald’s-themed controllers.
Yes, you read that right. It’s being reported by Mashed that McDonald’s in the Land Down Under is giving away 50 of the controllers which are emblazoned with the McDonald’s colors as well as a Big Mac and fries. They are meant to mark the 50th anniversary of McDonald’s arriving in Australia and they aren’t nearly as ugly as you may think.
So how do you get one? Well, first you have to live in Australia. (Sorry rest of the world.) Second, you have to jump on a list of specific Twitch streams which will be running during the first week of August to qualify to be able to maybe get one of the exclusive controllers.
The McDonald’s PS5 controller will become an instant collector’s item.
The fact that the controller is only going to be available in Australia has already seemingly made it a hot collectible among gamers. PS5 fans are already clamoring for them and you can probably expect to see them on eBay within a few weeks.
So could we see these eventually arrive on these shores? Considering how much buzz the controller is already causing, McDonald’s would be foolish not to. That doesn’t mean it will happen but we can always hope.
It should be noted that McDonald’s will neither confirm nor deny that the promotion is a real thing. Apparently the news about the promotion went out a bit earlier than expected, but a few Twitch streamers have pretty much confirmed that yes, the controller is real.
