Aeterna Noctis Receives Patch and QoL Improvements

Despite being released only a few weeks ago, Aeterna Noctis is already receiving a large patch. The patch includes a new mode called Aeterna, with the original, harder mode renamed to Noctis. Basically, if you’re a Metroidvania fan looking for something to play in between Metroid Dread and Axion Verge 2, it looks like Aeterna Noctis may be just what the doctor ordered.

There are also QoL improvements added to the game-such as adding more thrones to the map (as requested by the community) and fixing a bunch of bugs. Last but not least we have a just-announced Caos Collector’s Edition that will launch in Spring 2022 and include the following:

  • A premium collector’s box designed specifically for the PS5.
  • A steel book PS5 version of the game.
  • A premium collectors artbook with more than 224 pages.
  • Aeterna Noctis three-disc original soundtrack
  • Two postcards.
Not too shabby for a collector’s edition, eh?

What’s Aeterna Noctis‘ new game mode?

Like I said earlier, Noctis is the original, harder mode while Aeterna is the newly introduced mode. It’s an easier and more accessible experience and is focused on “exploration and action”. The levels in the Aeterna mode have also been redesigned and the bosses have less health so that they can be beaten more easily.

If you find Aeterna too easy, you can switch between the Aeterna and Noctis game modes without having to start a new game, which is neat and fits the non-linear exploration theme that the game is supposed to be all about.

For those interested in Aeterna Noctis, it’s available for $29.99 on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

What do you think of this update? Have you ever heard of Aeterna Noctis before? If you have, what do you think of it? Do you like Metroidvanias? Let us know in the comments!
