Manga and anime have become widely popular all over the world in the past decade or so. Shows based on the Japanese animation style have a worldwide audience and the manga for them sells in heaps. Netflix producing shows based on the medium tells you all about how famous the genre is.
Video game adaptions of the culture have also become a common theme now. We get a lot of games every year based on popular anime, like One Piece and Naruto. One really popular manga, and anime series, getting this treatment is Sword Art Online.
The science-fantasy manga has several games in the franchise and on several platforms. Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris was one of the most recent games in the franchise and it launched in 2020. But, the title did not release on all platforms initially but that might be changing very soon.
According to a recent leak from EB Games Australia, a digital retail store, Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris will allegedly be coming to the Nintendo Switch very soon. We can see the game as a listing on the retailer’s official website and this is a shock. Nintendo did not announce anything official about this new release and this is the first we are hearing about it.
EB Games Australia sent out an e-mail listing all of the games coming to the Nintendo Switch after the Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase event. But, this listing had Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris as one of the games even though no one heard anything official.
Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris first came out in 2020 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. But, it did not release on the Nintendo Switch for some reason even though action games have a player base on the console. Now, it seems like the platform will finally be getting the action game in 2022.
Nothing much can be found out from the listing on the retailer’s website. One interesting thing, however, is the logo on the game’s cover which is the new BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment logo that came into effect after 2020. It is a small hint but we will take this breadcrumb from Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris, as we don’t have much else to go on.
The listing also didn’t give us a release date for Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris; only a vague timeline of 2022 is given for the game’s release, so it will probably come out in this release window. Furthermore, a price is also present on the website and it is $89.95, in Australian Dollars of course.
It isn’t present as a placeholder price, so it may be the official one that EB Games Australia got from BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment. Lots of this is speculation right now and it is very strange but it has happened before. Hopefully, Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris launches on the Nintendo Switch next year.
