Aliens: Fireteam Elite Won’t Support Cross-Play, Only Cross-Gen

We’ve been so spoilt for games supporting cross-play in recent years that we’ve begun to just accept it’s happening when titles launch. Unfortunately, that won’t be the case for Aliens: Fireteam Elite – a cooperative game which is built around playing with friends.

The news was revealed by Cold Iron Studios CEO Craig Zinkievich in an interview with GameSpot. While Xbox players be able to take advantage of cross-gen play, meaning Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S users can play together, players will be unable to match up with PC or PlayStation users – for now, anyway.

Zinkievich told GameSpot that “there is currently no plan for cross-play at this time”, but didn’t rule out its inclusion entirely. Maybe it will be something we see later down the road, provided other platforms such as PlayStation are on board. With a game that’s said to feature “alternate paths, random objectives, [and] varied enemy encounters to keep the missions fresh”, we’re hoping it’s something that could be in the pipeline for the future.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite launches on August 24 and boasts gameplay similar to Left 4 Dead. Fingers crossed its more promising than Gearbox’s attempt back in 2013 with Aliens: Colonial Marines
