After so much fan demand, Respawn states that it’s planning to bring more Titanfall related content to Apex Legends in the next season.
It’s well known that Apex Legends and Titanfall are set within the same universe, with the former taking place about 18 years or so after the events of Titanfall 2.
Despite the occasional references, though, many fans have wanted to see the two games more obviously interconnect with each other. In the past, developer Respawn has been adamant about not including popular Titanfall features like wall-running or the Titans themselves, but it sounds like it will be throwing fans a bone come Season 9.
During a panel on the BrownGirlGamerCode Twitch channel featuring several Respawn staff members, game director Chad Grenier promised Titanfall-related content for the next season.
‘Next season, Season 9, you’re actually going to see a ton of Titanfall coming back into the game, in one way or another. I’ve told some people before, if you’re a Titanfall fan, hang on for Season 9 because there’s going to be some really cool stuff in there,’ he said.
While it’s not apparent exactly what kind of content he’s referring to, fans may actually already know what it is. Last month, details for Season 9’s new playable character were supposedly leaked online.
If these leaks are accurate, then the next character will be Blisk, the founder of the Apex Games and one of the main villains from Titanfall 2. What is believed to be footage from the Nintendo Switch version showing his unique abilities has been shared, courtesy of regular Apex Legends dataminer Biast12, and one of them involves him summoning a Titan to act as temporary support.
This could very well be what Grenier is referring to, but he has reiterated on Twitter that the team has no plans to include Titans, after one fan claimed that the presence of Titans would actively ruin the game.
It’s possible that Grenier specifically means that Titans wouldn’t be made playable. Having one appear as an assist of some kind could be fine provided it was balanced correctly.
For the time being, fans will just have to wait for Season 9 to actually start, which may not be happening for at least another month or so. Season 8 is expected to end on May 3, so Season 9 should begin the day after.
Apex Legends is available on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
