Arcadia baseball postpones games due to covid protocols; Azusa football coach resigns – Daily News

The Arcadia high school baseball team postponed last Friday’s Pacific League game against Burroughs due to covid protocols and will remain in quarantine until at least April 26, according to Arcadia athletic director Milicia Protic.

The Apaches had a busy week planned with two Pacific League games against Glendale, and big non-league games against Servite and Sierra Canyon, all of which have been postponed.

Protic said the Apaches hope to make up all the games, especially the league games and says that both Burroughs and Glendale are working with them on rescheduling dates to make up the league games.

FOOTBALL COACH OPENINGS

Azusa football coach and athletic director Darren Spence said he resigned following the Aztecs’ only football game on Saturday, losing to Gladstone 22-8.

Both Azusa and Gladstone struggled with having enough players to field teams this season, and for the Aztecs, playing at least one game was special because it was able to play on its new turf field on campus. Azusa normally plays all its home games at Citrus College.

Spence will remain athletic director for now, but he said he plans on leaving at the end of the school year for what he described as various “personal reasons”.

Gladstone coach Ted Clarke resigned during the season and though the Gladiators continued with an interim coach, athletic director Albert Sanchez said they will float the position this week, looking for a permanent football coach.

In girl’s basketball, the Spartans easily defeated Maranatha 52-32. Senior Lauren Scoville had a double-double (22 points and 14 rebounds).

The Spartans will open up Baseline League action on Tuesday night with a home game against rival Etiwanda.
