Assassin’s Creed Mirage will see the return of Basim Ibn Ishaq for another adventure as a Master Assassin. The game, known for a long time as Rift, is coming soon and is supposed to be a return to the roots of the series. How will the next Assassin’s Creed game be? What will the setting be? We have the answers for you below!
Few franchises have established themselves as genre-defining games like Assassin’s Creed. It’s a staple of the gaming industry, as more than twelve mainline entries and seventeen spin-offs have been created in the name of Assassin’s Creed.
Another entry into this franchise is arriving with Basim Ibn Ishaq from Valhalla, as an unexpected rift occurs between the Assassins and Templars. This upcoming entry to the long-running series is named Assassin’s Creed Mirage, formerly known under the code name Assassin’s Creed Rift. This has now been officially confirmed by Ubisoft. It plans to reset the franchise with a breath of fresh air. In this article, we summarize everything we know about AC Mirage, including details on gameplay and story and the release date.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage: Release Date
Assassin’s Creed Mirage will most likely launch by Spring 2023. Jason Schreier of Bloomberg has confirmed a leak by the YouTuber j0nathan, which revealed a release window between April and June 2023. So the next AC game is less than a year off.
Artworks for Mirage also leaked on the internet. The images show an assassin, most likely Basim, in front of a huge gate and a shadow of a mysterious figure. One of the leaked images also promotes a potential DLC campaign called “The Forty Thieves Quest”.

Ubisoft has announced a Ubisoft Forward for September 10, where it will show off multiple upcoming games in its catalog. It was confirmed that the official reveal of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, including more details on the game, will happen there.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage Gameplay: Back To The Roots
The game hasn’t been officially announced or discussed by Ubisoft yet. That means that we don’t have many official details yet. But thankfully we have reporters and leakers, who always get a lot out of Ubisoft games before they are officially shown. This is also the case with AC Mirage.
Reports by Schreier have suggested that Assassin’s Creed Mirage will return to the franchise’s classic gameplay style, as last seen in AC Unity and AC Syndicate. You know what that means, right? More stealth and action adventure, less open world RPG.
According to reliable leaks, many of the RPG systems from the last three Assassin’s Creed titles have been cut from the game, if not all of them. That means no level system and no dialogue or romancing options. Mirage is supposed to be a purer AC experience, similar to older titles. This will also reflect on the setting of the game.
AC Mirage Setting & Story: One City Instead Of A Huge World
Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be set in Baghdad, the capital of the Abbasid Caliphate and current-day Iraq. Some rumors have suggested that other cities will be included in the game. Schreier has refuted this though, emphasizing that the game will solely take place in Baghdad.
In AC Mirage, you will play as Basim Ibn Ishaq. Anyone familiar with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will remember this character as the reincarnated host of Loki, and we’re thoroughly excited at the thought of Ubisoft reusing Basim Ibn Ishaq in another mainline entry of Assassin’s Creed. We don’t know much about Basim’s story in Mirage yet, but it is suggested that it will show his journey to joining the Hidden Ones.
AC Mirage Platforms
Assassin’s Creed Mirage will most like launch for all common platforms, meaning PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. However, this hasn’t been confirmed yet. But we strongly expect that Ubisoft will still want to cash in on the huge player base on the last-gen consoles, before pivoting to current-gen systems with the live-service Assassin’s Creed Infinity.
That’s all we know about Assassin’s Creed Mirage so far. Expect the game to be revealed on September 10 at Ubisoft Forward. We will update this article as soon as we know more about the game.
