The 17th installment in the long-running Battlefield series, Battlefield 2042 will not have a single-player campaign, with a narrative unfolding through multiplayer gameplay. Fans of the series got their first real look at the title via the Battlefield 2042 announcement trailer, which featured the game’s touted extreme weather and the now-legendary “rendezook” maneuver.

Shroud has recently commented that EA and DICE have much more Battlefield 2042 to reveal, and will almost certainly do so at the highly anticipated EA Play event next month.

Although the game isn’t due to launch for roughly four months, Battlefield fans everywhere are jumping on the hype train. The fanbase flocked to Battlefield 4 after the announcement of Battlefield 2042, so much so that DICE had to allot additional server capacity due to increasingly long queue times. Despite releasing in 2013, with three Battlefield titles released in the interim, fans have seemingly returned to Battlefield 4 in droves due to it being the last game in the franchise with a similar look and feel in terms of weapons and gadgets. Battlefield 2042 releases on October 22 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

The press release also reveals Polaris as Battlefield 2042’s off-road vehicle partner, as well as Logitech for PC peripherals. Although the announcement of Nvidia as the official PC partner is likely much to Battlefield fans on the platform’s chagrin, given Nvidia’s scarcity, that may actually change soon. A recent report suggests that Nvidia will begin increasing production of its RTX 3060 GPU, which could signify the global deficit is coming to an end. In addition to supplies increasing, the pricing may be going down as well, as there are multiple reports of overseas markets selling the processor for two-thirds of its initial exorbitant price tag of $1,200. Today’s announcement reveals Xbox, specifically Xbox Series X, will be the official console partner for Battlefield 2042. This continues the relationship between Microsoft and the Battlefield team, which had previously done the same thing for 2018’s Battlefield 5. However, it’s currently unclear on how exactly the game will take advantage of the next-gen hardware, or what it means for Battlefield 2042 on other platforms. For those who play on PC, Nvidia is the official graphics platform partner. The GPUs will support both Nvidia DLSS and Nvidia Reflex, granting PC players AI-powered performance boosts and low latency.
