Battlefield 2042 counts as the 17th installment of the Battlefield series of games and the first to support 128-player matches, but not all of those participants are guaranteed to be human.
As The Verge reports, EA has confirmed that for its “All-Out Warfare” experience including “Breakthrough” and “Conquest” gameplay modes, 128 players are supported, but that number will be made up with AI bots when 128 human players aren’t available. A maximum of 64 bots can be used per match, and it seems likely there will always be a few bots running around, especially at non-peak times on the servers.
In Conquest matches, two teams fight each other to capture control points and sectors once enough control points are seized. In Breakthrough matches, one team tries to capture control points while the other attempts to defend them. In both cases, up to 128 humans can take part in each match on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X or Series S. However, in the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game, the count is limited to 64 players per match.

EA expects to show off more Battlefield 2042 gameplay and features at EA Play Live on July 22. The game officially launches on Oct. 22, but an Open Beta will be available to all players on all supported platforms “in the months leading up to launch.” Of course, to take part you’ll need to pre-order the game.
