If you’re considering upgrading your console next year and don’t want to lose your FIFA 23 progress, then you’ll need to learn about Dual Entitlement.
Now that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S are becoming more readily available, many gamers will be looking to upgrade soon.
The only issue is that some games do not offer free next-gen upgrades, including FIFA 23.
Thankfully, there is a way to upgrade FIFA 23 without having to purchase an entirely new game. Here is how.

How to Upgrade FIFA 23 to Next Gen (PS5 & Xbox Series X|S)
To upgrade your FIFA 23 to the next-gen version for no additional cost, you’ll need to have access to EA’s Dual Entitlement. This is only available by purchasing the digital Ultimate Edition of FIFA 23.
What is Dual Entitlement in FIFA 23?
Dual Entitlement basically gives you access to FIFA 23 on either the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 or the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
To get Dual Entitlement, you’ll need to purchase the digital Ultimate Edition of FIFA 23. Once you have Dual Entitlement, you’ll have access to:
- PS4 & PS5 FIFA 23 Editions
- Xbox One & Xbox Series X Editions
Unfortunately, this is currently the only way to upgrade FIFA 23 to Next Gen. If you happen to purchase the Standard Edition on PS4, then you’d need to purchase the Standard Edition on PS5 as well.
Dual Entitlement is only available within the same console family. This means if you purchase the Ultimate Edition on PS4, you will not have Dual Entitlement on Xbox Series X|S.
But this doesn’t mean cross-play won’t be an option. For the first time ever, FIFA 23 will feature cross-play in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team.

Will Progress Transfer When I Upgrade FIFA 23 to Next Gen?
Not all of your progress will transfer when you upgrade to the next-gen version of FIFA 23. Only Ultimate Team and Volta progress will transfer.
The following progress will be specific to the console that you play it on:
- Online Seasons
- Co-Op Seasons
- Career Mode
- Pro Clubs
Thankfully, FIFA 2023 Ultimate Team will transfer. This is good news, considering the new modes and reworks coming to FUT this year.
