One of the best-selling Xbox games at the time of this writing is a title that was originally released all the way back in 2012 for the Xbox 360.
One of the best-selling games on Xbox right now is Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, a game that originally released in 2012 for the Xbox 360. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was a massive hit when it first launched, earning critical acclaim for its action-packed multiplayer experience and memorable Zombies mode. It remains one of the most popular Call of Duty games ever made, with longevity that outmatches most other games.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has remained relevant on modern Xbox consoles thanks to the Xbox backward compatibility program. This has made it possible for Xbox gamers to almost every main series Call of Duty game on Xbox One and Xbox Series X, Black Ops 2 among them, with the game still selling at a staggering $49.99 due to its unwavering popularity.
Recently, Microsoft discounted Black Ops 2 to $14.99, and that seems to have played a role in giving the game a big enough boost to make it the third best-selling Xbox game right now. The only titles that are currently ahead of Black Ops 2 in the “Top Paid Games” sales chart are brand-new releases in blockbuster sports game franchises, NBA 2K23 and Madden NFL 23. Right behind Black Ops 2 is Cyberpunk 2077, which is enjoying a resurgence of its own thanks to the updates that CD Projekt Red has released to improve the game as well as the popularity surrounding the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime on Netflix.
Best-Selling Xbox Games
Interestingly, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 isn’t the only classic Call of Duty game that’s currently in the top 10 best-selling Xbox games list. The original Call of Duty: Black Ops finds itself in the 10th place spot, though it’s considerably cheaper than its sequel, priced at $29.99.
It’s clear that there’s an appetite for classic Call of Duty experiences like this on Xbox. And for those that don’t feel like paying for the games but still want to play them, they can likely look forward to checking out the franchise through Xbox Game Pass at some point in the future. Once Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard goes through, all the company’s games will likely be added to Xbox Game Pass, so it’s just a matter of time before the Call of Duty franchise makes the leap.
Call of Duty has an impressive past, but the franchise’s future is looking bright as well. While there have been some complaints about the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer beta, the buzz surrounding the new game seems to be generally positive. Fans will have to wait for the full game to drop next month to see how Modern Warfare 2 stacks up to classics like Black Ops 2.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is out now for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
