Seven years after launch, Borderlands 2 is still making sales milestones.
According to GamesIndustry.biz, Borderlands 2 has now sold over 22 million copies worldwide. In May earlier this year, Take-Two Interactive shared that the title passed the 20 million mark during a fiscal earnings call. Since then, the game was able to accumulate an additional two million copies. Borderlands 2 originally released in September of 2012. Gearbox later remastered the game as well as Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, releasing them together as Borderlands: The Handsome Collection.
With Borderlands 3 being just over a month away, it isn’t surprising so many copies have been sold in such a short time. Back in June, Gearbox released the Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary DLC for Borderlands 2. I recently played through the new expansion and thought it was a great way to set up Borderlands 3.
As a fan of the series, it is great hearing so many people playing Borderlands 2 whether they be old or new players. Borderlands to me is such a unique franchise that everyone should try. From what we’ve played of Borderlands 3, it seems to have something for everyone. If you are looking to jump into the franchise now is a perfect time. Both Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition and The Handsome Collection are available right now for a discounted price.
Last week, Gearbox announced that Borderlands 3 has gone gold making the launch of the game feel even that much closer. It is set to release on September 13 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC exclusively on the Epic Games Store. Borderlands 3 will also release day one on Google Stadia sometime in November. You can pre-order it on Amazon.
