Gross gaming revenues reported in the Macau SAR in June have tumbled to MOP2.4 billion (US$306.4 million), the worst monthly tally this year so far.
The June results – the worst since September, 2020 – represented a 26 per cent drop month-to-month and a 62 per cent fall from the same month of last year.
The first half of the year reported a 46.4 per cent decrease from the same period last year to about MOP26.2 billion, after three consecutive months of year-on-year drops.
The city has been in the throes of its worst community outbreak since the pandemic started almost three years ago after 12 confirmed cases were first reported on June 19, prompting business closures, movement restrictions and multiple citywide testing rounds.
The case total has already reached more than 600 cases, and although casinos have remained open analysts have estimated gaming revenues in the SAR should reach near zero during containment efforts.
In light of the recent community outbreak in Macau restrictions for movement between the SAR and Zhuhai authorities were again tightened reducing the flow in local borders to only about 1,000 daily entries.
The Zhuhai government currently requires Macau arrivals to carry out 7-day isolation at designated places plus 3 days of health self-monitoring at home.
At the same time, a 24 hours negative nucleic acid test is required for Zhuhai arrivals coming from Macau, with a 48 hours negative test required for the opposite direction.
