Brittni Mason Set for Paralympic Games

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Former Eagle Brittni Mason is set to represent Team USA at the 2020 Summer Paralympic Games where she hopes to strike gold in multiple events. The Richmond Heights, Ohio native will partake in the 100m and 200m dashes during her time in Tokyo.

“Brittni’s training over the last six weeks has been going very well,” said Associate Head Coach Chris Best. “Now that she’s been in Tokyo since Aug. 10, her body has had time to adjust to the 13-hour time difference. After trials we really wanted to focus on her strength, speed, and technical execution. She’s more than ready to compete at the highest level!”

The preliminary round and final of the women’s T47 100m dash are both scheduled for Tuesday, August 31. On November 12, 2019, at the World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the Ohio product took home the gold in the T47 class with a red-hot 11.89 clip. Her 11.89 was not only good enough for first, but it also set a new world record, besting the previous record of 11.92 by Team USA teammate Deja Young.

In Mason’s final season donning the Green and White, she achieved her world record time of 11.89 again at the Knights Invite in Orlando, Fla., April 24. The preliminary heats begin at 11:09 p.m. EST on Monday, Aug. 30 with the final taking place at 7:18 a.m. EST, Aug. 31.

Moreover, the veteran sprinter is also set to compete in the 200m dash. At the U.S. Paralympic Team Trials, Mason made some noise by winning the 200 in 25.14, giving her an opportunity to earn another medal in Tokyo. Her career-best 200m time came in 2019 where she crossed the finish line in 25.02 at the Jesse Owens Classic, April 27. The preliminary heats begin at 10:54 p.m. EST on Friday, Sept. 3 with the final taking place at 6:50 a.m. EST, Sept. 4.

Mason could also be selected for Team USA’s 4x100m relay, allowing her shot at a triple crown at the games.
