The time has come to brace your SSDs for impact, readers: heavy shelling is incoming in the form of potentially humongous Call of Duty file sizes. As you’ll no doubt already be aware, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launches next month, with Battle Royale sequel Warzone 2.0 following on 16th November, 2022. The series, renowned for its ever-inflating file sizes, is about to take control of your console’s storage space, then.
Well, potentially – although no firm file sizes have been announced just yet. However, developer Infinity Ward has confirmed that while the two titles will be integrated, you’ll have flexibility over which ones you want to install. This means, if you’re only interested in Warzone 2.0, you won’t need to download the entirety of Modern Warfare 2, and vice versa. Of course, if you want them both, you may already be dead.
“The integration will be seamless again, so you don’t have to exit the game to switch from Warzone 2.0 to multiplayer, and vice versa,” said multiplayer co-design director Joe Cecot in an interview with German website GameStar. “So, this is very quick and easy, but you can still determine the installation yourself.”
Hopefully the developer has been able to use this soft-reset of Warzone to bring the overall file sizes down, because the original version really started taking the p*ss, didn’t it? We appreciate there are a lot of high-quality assets in the Call of Duty games, but recent entries have been ridiculously bloated, and it’s something that clearly needs to be addressed – purely for quality of life reasons, if nothing else.
