Playing video games competitively can rake in some serious dough.

And Canadian competitors are no slouches either.

According to a study compiled by online betting rankings site BestCasinoSites.net, Canada ranked as the 29th best-performing country in esports competitions, with players earning three times the average net annual salary. The study was created utilizing data from esportsearnings.com in which average player earnings were divided by each country’s average net salary.

The purpose of the study is to showcase the countries with the most successful esports players.

“Major gaming tournaments are responsible for massive potential earnings of some of the most talented esports players,” said BestCasinoSites.net editor Aiden Howe in a media release. “It’s interesting how countries that dominate the gaming market aren’t always in the top three of the major competitions.

“It’s also interesting how games that were released 10 or so years ago are still the most played globally, even in comparison to the best-selling games of recent years. It says a lot about player loyalty, as well as how the free-to-play model is the low barrier-to-entry these games need to succeed in this economy.”

The most popular tournament is “The International,” which is hosted by Value and has a cash prize pool worth $47.73 million.
