Capcom Releases New Updates for Resident Evil 2, 3, and 7

Capcom releases the next-generation console versions of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 7 and reveals what has been upgraded in the games.

As both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S approach their two-year anniversary, it is no surprise that Capcom is giving its fan-favorite Resident Evil games a next-generation upgrade. The Resident Evil franchise is one of the most widely played and enjoyed survival horror games with both first and third-person titles, giving players a variety of experience and gameplay.

Amid rumors and leaks for Resident Evil 9, Capcom is hard at work to create remakes and upgrades for existing titles, which is great news for fans that own next-generation consoles and would love to relive the adventures from previous games in the franchise. So, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard are all welcome editions to the “upgraded for next-gen consoles” library of games made available in the last couple of years.

Capcom announced the upgrades for these fan-favorite Resident Evil titles at an exciting time and fans are sure to be eager to get their hands on the next-generation versions of these games. The games boast the use of ray tracing, which dynamically expresses reflections of light from mirrors and water surfaces. Also, thanks to the increased processing speed of next-gen hardware, the games also sport higher frame rates without losing graphical fidelity. There is 3D audio support now and faster loading times as well.

With so many games receiving next-gen upgrades, it is important for players to be aware of what exactly is being upgraded and how they can get their hands on the upgraded versions. So, here is a list of things to know about the next-generation console upgrades for Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 7:

  • Players that purchased the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One versions of the games are eligible for upgrades. Capcom warns players to be careful about duplicate purchases.
  • The Steam version of the games will be upgraded when the patch goes live. Note that the Stem version only supports DirectX12.
  • Save data from current generation versions are transferrable.
  • Resident Evil Resistance, unfortunately, is not part of the upgrade.
  • Resident Evil 2 Cost: PlayStation 5: Discounted at $11.99 until 9/14/22. Xbox Series X/S: $39.99
  • Resident Evil 3 Cost: PlayStation 5: Discounted at $11.99 until 9/14/22. Xbox Series X/S: $39.99
  • Resident Evil 7 Cost: PlayStation 5: Discounted at $9.99 until 9/14/22. Xbox Series X/S: $19.99


There is a lot of Resident Evil development happening right now, like Resident Evil Village getting a PS VR2 version, and fans are very excited to get more and more content for one of their favorite survival horror franchises.
