Chaos Head Noah Steam release date, time & why it was banned

Chaos Head Noah was initially banned on Steam, but Valve has reversed its decision and the game’s release date and time countdown is now continuing ahead.

In addition to Steam, the visual novel is also launching on Nintendo Switch. It’s published by Spike Chunsoft whose library of work includes Steins Gate and Corpse Party, so you should pretty much know what to expect.

Lots of people are thrilled about Valve’s u-turn, and extra good news is that you can play the game today.

When does Chaos Head Noah come out?

The release date and time for when Chaos Head Noah will come out on Steam is 09:00 PT, 12:00 ET, and 17:00 BST on October 7th.

All of the above hours come courtesy of Valve’s countdown which said the game will launch in nine hours as of 08:00 BST today. There is no launch time countdown for Switch, but it launches on Nintendo’s platform today, too.

Unfortunately, the visual novel is not joining either PlayStation or Microsoft. You can pre-order a digital copy, or you can get a physical steelbook launch edition from Amazon.

Why was it banned on Steam?

Chaos Head Noah was initially banned on Steam because of censorship.

Per gamesindustrybiz, Spike Chunsoft had cancelled the launch of the game on Valve’s store because of ‘Steam’s guideline-required changes to the game’s content’.

PQube Games Head of Localization, Andrew Hodgson, who has translated previous Chaos games, said in an interview with Ars Technica that ‘there’s been a definite issue with Steam habitually rejecting games that have an ‘anime’ aesthetic and school settings, even games that aren’t even remotely salacious’.

As for why it’s no longer banned, Spike Chunsoft has shared a statement from Valve which says, ‘Valve’s content review team, the group that made the original decision, has re-examined CHAOS;HEAD NOAH and decided to reverse course and allow the game to ship on Steam, as is’.

Spike Chunsoft says they believe the u-turn was because of unwavering support from fans.
