An uproar of excitement in the Call of Duty community today, as the CDL put out a tweet stating that later in 2021, LAN matches will be returning for players. Many of the pros and players in the community are excited for this return to form as it means a return to LAN matches between players.
LAN or “Local Area Network” for those who are unsure, is extremely important to esports as a whole. With online gaming, a lot of variables come into play, and some can make or break the game such as draw distance, frame-rate, and ping.
For an esports match, all players need to be on the same playing field, so that they can not only play their best, but also not be held back by technical limitations beyond their control.
One such example is ping. If you’ve ever experienced lag in a game, it most likely means you have a poor ping. Playing in person over a LAN network, means that there is no mediator like an ISP or a server farm. Between you and the other player.
This gives you and the other player nearby an equal playing field, and many people partook in “LAN Parties” during the earlier years of gaming. This has been translated to esports, as LAN parties have become the standard for esports events.
Many CDL players and pros in the community are ecstatic to find out hat they’ll be returning to LAN matches in 2021.
Slacked, of the Florida Mutineers responded with a single emoji to the post.
Optic Envoy, From Optic Chicago responded with a “ahahah we back”
ZooMaa from the New York Subliners retweeted the post and replied with “W”
Another player from NYSL, zmose Made a comment in regard to the announcement.
“all these vets flexin their s*** about how the rookies have never played them on LAN as if it’s gonna be different. Simp, Abezy, and Envoy were 18 and 19 and took your lunch money on LAN for a year straight”
It’s completely fair to say that the community is very happy to get back to not only playing on LAN, but playing on a stage like years past. However, the announcement has caught the eye of players from other communities. WondaMike, a pro Rocket League player, replied to the post from the CDL with an “@RocketLeauge”
It appears that everyone is more than ready to get back into the LAN scene once again and play their best without having to worry about any sort of hiccup or issue that’s out of their control.
