‘Concert leak’ correctly predicted Xenoblade 2 rep, predicts last two challengers coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass Vol. 2

Pyra & Mythra were recently revealed to be coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as the two-in-one fourth challenger of the Fighters Pass Vol. 2. More information regarding these Xenoblade Chronicles 2 reps will be unveiled during the upcoming Mr. Sakurai Presents presentation that is to debut on March 4, 2021 — this next Thursday.

About a month after Sephiroth’s reveal as the character coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate after Minecraft’s Steve, an anonymous poster on 4chan was able to correctly predict that the next newcomer would hail from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The post in question also provided some very blatant hints about the next two challengers that would follow after Xenoblade Chronicles 2 rep — who we now know to be both Pyra & Mythra as a a two-in-one fighter that can freely transform into one another.

“Nintendo is currently planning on hosting a live, three hour long concert in 2022 where a symphony orchestra will play orchestrated renditions of songs that appear in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate,” said the anonymous poster. “This event will be held in Japan after the second Fighters Pass is complete and they’re taking all precautions needed to make this event happen. They’ll stream the event live on YouTube for everyone around the globe to see. Eventually, Nintendo will distribute a soundtrack disc on the My Nintendo Service.”

Following this, they provided a list of songs that would supposedly be played during the three hour event. It appears that each character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (with one exception) would be getting a section of time dedicated to them with the symphony orchestra playing a song that highlights that character. Main themes for Super Smash Bros. 64, Melee, Brawl, Smash 4 and Ultimate would also be mixed in throughout the concert.

For example, themes like “Jump Up, Super Star!” would be performed for Mario, “Main Theme – The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” would be performed for Link, “Open Your Heart” would be played for Sonic, “Meta Knight’s Revenge” would be played for Meta Knight, “Vampire Killer” would be played for Simon Belmont, “One-Winged Angel” would be played for Sephiroth and so forth.

What’s odd about this list is how Street Fighter’s Ken is completely absent. Other Echo Fighters like Lucina, Dark Pit, Daisy and Richter appear to have songs that highlight their presence in Smash. Perhaps the poster accidentally omitted Ken?

The song listed after the “One-Winged Angel” theme was “Counterattack – Xenoblade Chronicles 2.” With the exception of Piranha Plant, every DLC character added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate expands the game’s already massive library of musical tracks. Notably, “Counterattack” was one of the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 themes that played during the Pyra & Mythra reveal trailer.

The two songs listed after “Counterattack – Xenoblade Chronicles 2” and before the “Galeem/Dharkon” theme are “N. Sanity Beach” and “Proof of a Hero” — themes that come from the Crash Bandicoot and Monster Hunter franchises respectively.

Being that there already is Monster Hunter content in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, “Proof of a Hero” is already present in the game, though it’s likely that this theme would receive some sort of remix if a Monster Hunter rep were added to the game.

It’s worth mentioning that the only DLC Mii costume parts that haven’t returned from Smash 4 yet are the Lloyd Irving parts from Tales of Symphonia, and the Monster Hunter costume parts. If Monster Hunter really is planned, then that’d probably be the only real opportunity to re-release these Mii costume parts for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Rumors of a unverifiable “five-year plan” document for Crash Bandicoot has been suggesting that Crash is slated for his debut in the Super Smash Bros. series in 2021. Other plans that were supposedly in the list included the concepts of a Crash Team Racing remake and a new Crash Bandicoot game (Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time) — both of which have happened.

A concert of these proportions does imply some finality to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which probably means that there wouldn’t be a Fighters Pass Vol. 3. This does fit what Masahiro Sakurai previously said about how the continuous development that’s gone on since Smash 4 will come to an end after the conclusion of the Fighters Pass Vol. 2.

Nintendo would likely require permission from all intellectual property owners to pull something like this off. Additionally, the symphony orchestra would need time to practice this three-hour concert, which provides possible explanations on why this poster would have this information. This all comes across as a massive undertaking that would make it difficult for Nintendo to be discreet about.

As always, it’s important to take all rumors with a grain of salt as there have been many similar “leaks” that declared that Dante, Ryu Hayabusa, Doom Guy and many others were supposed to come to Smash too.
