Cult fighting game returns with Melty Blood: Type Lumina, coming to Switch and more 2021

In a surprising turn, one of fighting games’ biggest cult hits is getting a new entry later this year. Melty Blood has been around since 2002, based on fellow doujin game darling, Type-Moon’s Tsukihime visual novel. French Bread, the group that developed Melty Blood, would go on to both continue refining Melty Blood and also developing their own series, Under Night In-Birth.

With Tsukihime getting an updated remake, Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon-, it’s been announced that Melty Blood will also be getting a new release titled Melty Blood: Type Lumina.

Several details can be found on the Melty Blood: Type Lumina website. For one, the battle system is being rebuilt “from the ground up” in order to bring it to modern standards without losing “the Melty Blood spirit”. It’s planned to feature more than ten characters and will be released on Switch as well as PS4 and Xbox One later this year.
