After a troubling few months following the release of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED are finally getting back on track. The company has had major issues over the last few months, such as the botched launch of their flagship game followed by a malware attack. The attack has caused a lot of trouble for the developers with the company files and the game’s source code becoming public.
The attack also caused another problem to the game after it’s next major update, Patch 1.2 was delayed for a few weeks. Eventually, things have started to become better for the Polish developers and they finally released the update last week. The update is massive with over 40 GBs worth of fixes for glitches and bugs of the game. But how much difference does it make in one of the buggiest games in the industry currently?

Cyberpunk 2077 1.2 Patch changes a lot for Xbox and PlayStation consoles
The patch notes for the update is massive, with fixes for almost all departments in the game. The update fixes a lot of bugs which improve gameplay, design, animations, environments and quests. Along with that, the update also fixes a lot of issues that were PC or console specific as well. While it improves the experience for PC and next generation console players, the most improved versions are the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro consoles.
The fundamental part of the patch seems to be the developer’s decisions to decrease a lot of streaming assets in the game for previous generation consoles. This means that the game actively tries to decrease a lot of textures, NPCs, items and many more. Most assets have a delay to decrease the CPU load, so most of the time they load much later. But during high-speed stuff like driving and car chases, they don’t have the time to load, hence they look absent. Visually, it looks much less polished than the previous Patch 1.1.
Frame Rate gets a huge upgrade
The developers sacrificed a lot of the game’s visual aesthetics in order to have a fixed 30 FPS gameplay. In Patch 1.1, most situations allowed the game to run at 28-30 FPS. But during car chases and shootouts, the game massively dropped frames to 16-24 FPS range, which caused a lot of problems.
With a lot of the visual barriers removed, Patch 1.2 brings Cyberpunk 2077 to a fixed 30 FPS experience in almost all scenarios. However, for the Xbox One X, the game suffers a lot of hitches and sometimes even crashes. Some of the other main issues such as the cars with low poly resolution has also been fixed. But the same issue remains for a lot of the NPCs if players approach them quickly.
However, most of these fixes are for the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. The situation doesn’t improve a lot for PS4 and the Xbox One, with both games still having a lot of bugs and glitches while it runs at 20-24 FPS on most situations.
Even though the update fixes a lot of issues, it still doesn’t improve a lot for Xbox One and PS4 players. But fans are optimistic that CD Projekt RED can somehow make the game playable in the upcoming updates.
