Dead Island 2 Will Include Degradable Weapons, But Dambuster Studios Says It’s ‘Generous With It’

The developer behind Dead Island 2 has revealed that weapons will degrade with use, but has assured players that the team is ‘generous’ with the feature, so it shouldn’t be as extreme as some other RPGs.

Speaking with VG247, Dambuster Studios‘ Design Director, Adam Puckett, said that the team wants players to be able to get to grips with the wide array of weapons in the zombie-smashing sequel.

Ranged weapons have ammo, so melee weapons have degradation. We’re generous with it; we want players to explore the full arsenal of weapons – so we have so many great mods, and so many perks, and so many other things in this game that we want players to cycle through.

Elsewhere, Dead Island 2 will allow players to pack their weapon wheel with up to eight weapons, with a further eight being saved as reserve items. You can also tinker with them to apply elemental damage, which comes in handy depending on what you’re up against at the time.

You won’t have worry about keeping track of your weapon’s status either, as any degradation will appear on-screen. Ducked offered, “there’s nothing better than cracking a katana, looking at the hilt in your hand, and then seeing the rest of the blade embedded in a zombie’s skull.”

Dead Island 2 will be shambling its way onto PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One on February 3, 2023.
