Don’t Expect The Next Mortal Kombat Game To Be Announced Just Yet

Mortal Kombat fans are understandably eager to find out exactly what developer NetherRealm has been working on since the spectacular Mortal Kombat 11.

The general consensus is that the team is currently gearing up to reveal Mortal Kombat 12, but according to creator Ed Boon, we shouldn’t expect an announcement anytime soon; at least, not until the series’ 30th Anniversary celebrations are all done and dusted.

Speaking on Twitter (thanks, VGC), Boon acknowledged fans’ excitment for the inevitable game reveal, but urged the community to temper its expectations, explaining that the anniversary celebrations will take precedent for the time being:

The original Mortal Kombat launched in arcades back on October 8th, 1992, so logically, the anniversary celebrations may end as soon as this week, but chances are Ed Boon and NetherRealm will want to carry on the festivities for a little while longer.

Nevertheless, a new game announcement is likely on the horizon, and we’re pretty confident that it will be Mortal Kombat 12. As for whether it will arrive on the Switch? Well, that’s another question entirely. We’re sceptical, but then we didn’t think Mortal Kombat 11 would launch on Nintendo’s console either. How wrong we were!

Are you looking forward to hearing what NetherRealm has been up to? Well “get over here” and let us know!
