Dragon Quest X Offline Hits Japan Next Year on PS5, PS4, But Still No Word on a Western Release

Dragon Quest X: Rise of the Five Tribes Offline is exactly what it says on the box — it’s an offline version of Dragon Quest X, the online MMO that first launched for the Nintendo Wii (!) back in 2012. Despite the game’s success in Japan (it was ported to the Wii U, PC, and 3DS) it never actually made it West — and it’s looking like the overhauled Offline version won’t be making the trip either.

The game just got a 26th February 2022 release date in its homeland, but again, there’s been no word whatsoever on a potential overseas launch. We imagine that, originally being an MMO, Dragon Quest X would be an absolute nightmare to localise — but it’s still a shame that we never got to experience this great-sounding RPG.

Fortunately, Square Enix is keen to make Dragon Quest a more global brand these days. Both Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate and Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake have already been confirmed for worldwide release dates, for example. So while it seems unlikely that we’ll ever see Dragon Quest X hit Western consoles, never say never.
