Dying Light 2 crossplay status and co-op campaign explained

Dying Light 2 comes out in less than a week and details about its co-op campaign are exciting despite the lack of crossplay and cross platform multiplayer.

There’s a bunch of massive video games for people to anticipate in February, and it’s parkour and zombies that kickstart the action. Techland’s first experience was a huge surprise and their sequel promises to be so much bigger and better.

It has a huge open-world that changes depending on your choices, and you will be able to roam this land with a group of buddies.

Dying Light 2 is not crossplay

There is no crossplay or cross platform multiplayer in Dying Light 2.

This means PlayStation cannot play with Xbox and vice versa with PC. Unfortunately, there is also no cross-gen multiplayer at launch meaning PS4 cannot play with PS5, Xbox One with Series X/S.

Lead game designer Tymon Smektala confirmed the above during a Twitch Gaming Q&A. While the lack of cross platform gameplay is disappointing, Smektala did say that Techland are working to make cross-gen possible after launch.

The Dying Light 2 campaign is co-op

The Dying Light 2 campaign is co-op and you will be able to play through the entire story with three friends maximum.

Whoever is the host will be able to invite up to three people. Those who are invited will also get to keep their progress and items after leaving the session.

Seeing as the game is an RPG with huge choices, those who have been invited into the world will be able to vote on decisions. However, the choice will ultimately be determined by the whim of the host.

Release date

The release date for the game is February 4th.

It is available on both last and current-gen for PlayStation and Xbox, and is available on Steam and the Epic Games store for PC. Some good news for console players is that there will be a free upgrade from PS4 and Xbox One to PS5 and Series X.

While the game does look amazing on PS4 and Xbox One, there’s some exclusive modes for current/next-gen. These are Resolution Mode with 4K, Quality Mode with Ray Tracing, and Performance Mode which delivers 60FPS.
