El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron PC Release Date Announced

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron
is set to release on PC in mid-April, according to developer Crim, as reported by Gematsu. The surreal action game first launched on Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2011, but was never ported to PC until now.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is loosely based on the Book of Enoch, an apocryphal Hebrew text. Players take on the role of Enoch as he fights against fallen angels who have defied God to live among humans. Enoch’s journey takes him through the tower built by the angels where each area provides a wildly different and imaginative aesthetic. Along the way he is accompanied by the Archangels and Lucifel, as he casually chats to God on his phone relaying Enoch’s progress.

The gameplay consists of a mix of melee combat and platforming sections. The combat utilises a simple but unique rock-paper-scissors system where each weapon has a strength or weakness to another. Players are able to steal weapons from enemies during combat, providing a tactical edge to fights where players have to prioritise the best order to tackle foes. The game also has a minimal use of HUD elements, with the player health being indicated by sections of armour breaking off when they get hit.

The game was directed by Sawaki Takeyasu, who is known for his previous work on the character design of Okami and Devil May Cry. He also worked as a monster designer on the DLC for Gravity Rush 2, The Ark of Time: Raven’s Choice.
