EPOS might not be a household name yet but its history should be familiar to anyone with a Sennheiser headset. The brand is essentially the successor for the gaming headsets such as the GSP 670 after the parent company let its business arms branch out in different setups.
EPOS is one of those segments and it specializes in gaming headsets. Its first next-gen audio product is called the H3, and it’s a closed-back wired gaming headset that’s built for different platforms. Because of its 3.5mm plug, it can connect to a PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC and Mac. It even includes one or two prong 3.5mm cables so that players have more flexibility when switching between devices.
It looks like a simpler headset compared to others on the market, but it’s going to be the sound quality and microphone that differentiates it from competitors. EPOS and Sennhesier before it had some of the best audio quality when it comes to gaming headsets. They beat out rivals with its bigger and voluptuous bass and crisp highs that let users detect the tiniest details in scenes. It’s the type of sound that stands out when you put on the set of cans.
The H3 also boasts a studio-quality microphone that appears to have a noise gate that cuts down on background noise so teammates can clearly hear players during online matches. It’s most complex feature is an adjustable boom mic that players lift up to mute.
If the H3 follows along the lines of the GSP 600, it could be a promising device for those looking for great sound. At $119, the H3 is going to be more expensive than comparable headsets such as the Logitech G Pro headsets ($99) or the HyperX Cloud II. The company said the H3 is a “premium entry-level” audio product.
If the H3 makes good on its lightweight promise, it could fix one of the bigger complaints about EPOS and Sennheiser’s previous models — the bulky weight.
