Paloma Valley High School’s esports club will soon be competing in the Menifee campus’ new esports computer lab.
Paloma Valley High was one of 25 schools across the country to win an esports lab. The school was selected as part of the Build an Esport Lab campaign with Generation Esports’ High School Esports League. The competition is to promote STEM education, college-ready skills and competitive video-gaming as a career, according to a news release.
The lab will have six high-spec gaming computers to run esports games.
On Friday, March 26, around 25 students — all part of the Paloma Valley High’s esports club — learned how to build and maintain their gaming computers. This gives all students an opportunity to feel like part of their school, said Nehemiah Odior, a campaign program manager with Generation Esports.
When the coronavirus pandemic hit and canceled in-person sports, “a lot of kids turned to video games,” said Noah Conaway, Paloma Valley High’s esports club adviser. The new lab will allow them to compete with other schools.
