The development team behind Far Cry 6 will ensure that the game works as intended in the PS4 And Xbox One.
In conversation with VGC, lead gameplay designer David Grivel spoke about how the team will not “abandon” the PS4 and Xbox One in favour of the next-gen consoles and all the additional features they offer. He mentioned that the game currently runs fine on both console generations and is constantly tested after every major developmental stage. “What I can say, and I cannot go so much in details about specs or things like that, is that both on the previous generation and the new Xbox Series and PS5 generation, the game is running fine,” he said.
Ubisoft Toronto is working to make sure that Far Cry 6 runs as intended on every platform the game is set to launch on. Last-gen consoles will be given equal importance as current-gen ones, as the studio aims to avoid the mistakes that were made by CD Projekt Red with Cyberpunk 2077.
Grivel also mentioned that the developer plans to showcase the game’s performance on the PS4 and Xbox One, so that owners of the consoles can make an informed decision on whether to buy Far Cry 6 or not. While there aren’t many details about how the game will leverage the features that come with the next-gen consoles, Grivel did give a glimpse of what to expect.
Further into the conversation, Grivel mentioned that looking at what other big developers are doing is an integral part of the early developmental stages. The aim is not to make things look similar to the games that are being studied, but to get a sense of how the Far Cry franchise can evolve with the dawn of a new generation of video game consoles.
“One detail I can add about the new generation is that it allowed us to run the game at 60 FPS and in 4K, which is really cool. I test it on kits at the company and I can definitely see that as a great thing on the new generation, but that doesn’t mean that the previous generation is abandoned in any way,” he said. “We’re really, really cautious about that, so we’ll show more detail and more info very soon. But yeah, we’ll care about all the platforms, both old gen, new gen and even PC, Stadia, Luna and all of that.”
Far Cry 6 will launch on October 7, 2021 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Stadia and Luna.
